Browse home trades How we rank

Every category we cover

Each category is scored on the things that matter for that kind of service.

The number beside each trade is how many providers we researched before ranking.

How it works

We find the candidates
For each trade we build a wide candidate list: Google Places, Companies House, provider websites and manual register checks.
We check and score them
We check each business against our eligibility requirements, then score it with our published scoring system, which rates providers on the things buyers actually care about. Anything we cannot verify stays neutral.
The editor decides
Our editor checks the facts behind every ranking and sets the final order — and answers for each one. After publication, any business on the page can send a response, which we print alongside our assessment.

Method on show
You can see exactly what counts and how much: our scoring weights, eligibility requirements, enquiry tests and refresh dates are published on one page.
Scorecard decides
Every rank comes from the published scorecard. Any sponsored feature sits outside it and carries a clear label.
Dated evidence, open corrections
Every fact carries its source and the date we checked it. If you spot an error, you can report it on any page, and accepted corrections rebuild the page from the record.
